ABOUT ME
Hello- I’m Rachael, welcome to my website. I’m a singing teacher, vocal health educator and professional singer.
I currently teach voice at Nida (Music Theatre), Ascham Girls' School and at my private studio in Cheltenham, Sydney and am a committee member and workshop presenter for ANATS NSW.
I have Bachelor degrees in Performance Voice (Canterbury University NZ) and a Diploma of Opera (Sydney Conservatorium). I also hold an LTCL (Voice) and Performance Certificate in Singing and ATCL in Pianoforte and Theory from Trinity College London.
I continue to expand my knowledge as a singer and teacher by regularly attending Voice conferences and courses such as those offered by the Australian Voice Association, Estill Vocal training Levels 1 and 2, Level I / II / III of Somatic Voicework™ and ANATS Australia. You can view the trainings I have completed in the Ongoing Study Section below.
My teaching methods have also been shaped from the many years performing as a professional soprano. Amongst other things, I performed in the chorus for Opera Australia from 1998 to 2023 in over 100 different operas in Sydney, Melbourne, Edinburgh and touring through China. You can read more about my performing experience in the qualifications section below.
I have a detailed knowledge of anatomy, breathwork and vocal physiology, as I was a Vocal Massage Therapist and ran a Vocal Massage business for 10 year specialising in Laryngeal Massage, Postural Alignment, Craniosacral Therapy and Myofascial Release. Whilst I am no longer massaging, I use this knowledge in my singing studio every day and teach self-massage and breathwork to performers in my Vocal health workshops. Clients have included the Opera Australia Young Artist Program, the NZ Young Artist Program, Nida, The Song Company and ANATS NSW.
Most of my students in my private studio are adults who sing in many of the choirs around Sydney including The Philharmonia, Bel a capella, Urban Voices, Stay Tuned, Hummingsong Choirs, St James Choir, Macquarie Singers and St Swithun's Choir. I am also available if you need help with audition preparation.
I do teach high school students, usually from year 10 and up to prepare them for HSC exams.
If you feel like my experiences and training 'resonate' with you, please contact me and we can set up a trial lesson for us to meet, discuss your needs and I can guide you through my teaching style. Why not book a discovery lesson today and come and have a sing?
